It’s a big year of races for NOC’s Master Guide Brad McMillan. Currently training in the Pacific Northwest (and fresh off his record-breaking canoe plunge), Brad has kindly agreed to share some stories and footage with us along the way. Check out what he has to say, and stay posted for more amazing videos of his summer adventures.

Recently I’ve been trying something different—kayaking. Which leads everyone to ask me, “what’s up with two blades?”

Even though my main focus since joining NOC 9 years ago has been advancing my canoeing skills, I’ve been kayaking since I was 12. And I never fully quit. For me, the draw of paddling is all about conquering different challenges. And paddling different boats whenever I have the chance is exactly that.

Because of this quest for more, in the beginning of April I decided to start training in a kayak. And just a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to paddle the Chattooga River and Green River Narrows—my two favorite stretches of whitewater in the world. Check out my video for footage!

This season is so packed with races that I get to push my kayaking skills even further. I’m having a blast training in the Pacific Northwest (just completed the Little White Salmon Race, too) and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds! Stay posted for more videos. I’ll be back with stories to share!
