Ryan discovered his passion for whitewater adventure during a river expedition down the Rio Platano in Hondurus during a college travel course – which opened the door to a job opportunity for La Moskitia Ecoaventuras. To prepare for his position Ryan attended a Guide School program at Nantahala Outdoor Center, introducing him to what has been his home for the last 11 whitewater seasons.
Lovingly known by his NOC peers as “Joe America”, Ryan combines his degree in Recreation and Tourism Management from Clemson University, his love for Section 4 on the Chattooga River, and his innate ability for training guides in his current position as NOC’s Chattooga River Outpost Manager. When Ryan is on the river or managing the outpost, you can find him running, reading, and play music with at least one of his twin babies by his side.
Ryan Made Our Trip
My guide was Ryan, he was very knowledgable about the river and area. His priority was our safety first, then fun. Ryan made our trip great. Erin, the leader of the group was very friendly, courteous and again very aware of all the rafts’ safety. Both Ryan and Erin are great assets to NOC.
