It would be tough for Curtis to remember a time when he wasn’t involved in whitewater sports – his first experiences in a canoe were before he could even walk, riding in the front of his dad’s canoe on the Hiawassee River. In fact, his father was a Kayak Instructor at NOC, introducing Curtis and two of his sisters to a new world of whitewater experiences and opportunities! With over 16 years of experience in professional guiding and instruction, Curtis’ passion for whitewater is apparent in his skill set, instruction expertise, and certifications.
Curtis is an ACA L5 Whitewater Kayak Instructor, ACA L4 Whitewater Canoe Instructor and Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, Rescue 3 International River Rescue Pro, Emergency Medical Technician, and Wilderness First Responder. Curtis is passionate about providing new opportunities for people in whitewater and can be found guiding trips internationally with NOC’s Adventure Travel Program during his down time. Additionally, Curtis enjoys leading multi-day rafting excursions, paragliding, mountain biking, playing guitar, and photographing his many adventures.
One of the Best Guides
Curtis was our guide. We’ve been on a lot of river trips (with NOC and other places where NOC isn’t located) and Curtis was one of the best guides I’ve ever had. He was so nice. He knew a lot about the river, about the local area and about flora/fauna we saw. He can also skillfully steer a raft like few people can.
