Leading the Line: Meet NOC’s 2025 Master Guides
Each year, a select group of standout guides enters the Master Guide Program, recognizing not just experience, but also leadership, mentorship, and heart. Their Master Guide intensive training requires 15 days of hard-skills development, and it includes a significant investment in each of our top guides. They are hand-selected by company leadership, paid to participate in the program, provided meals and lodging during the course, and receive new river rescue equipment. They bring a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to the world of whitewater rafting. Not only are they seasoned river guides, but many also serve on mountain rescue squads, fire departments, and other emergency response teams.
These guides are dedicated to safety and to creating a relaxed, team-oriented, and exhilarating experience for our guests. With diverse backgrounds and a deep passion for outdoor adventure, they are skilled at navigating the challenges of whitewater and other wilderness terrain. We are honored to have them as an integral part of our team.
In 2025, we’re proud to introduce you to four new Master Guides who embody everything we stand for: adventure, connection, and community.
Sean Kenel | The Quiet Catalyst
Rivers: Chattooga, Nantahala, Ocoee
Years Guiding: 5
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA
After first rafting with NOC as a guest, Sean returned with a paddle in hand and never looked back. Now a calm, steady presence across three major rivers, Sean’s guiding style is as intentional as it is adventurous. He’s known for creating space for his crew to shine and for his deep reverence for wild water. Whether teaching paddle strokes or modeling self-trust, Sean reminds us that mastery isn’t something that’s loud; it’s something that’s earned.
“To have fun, be challenged, and be recognized for my growth, that’s why I’m still here.”
Off the River: Mountain biking, ducky paddling, and embracing the good kind of chaos.

Austin Rhoden | The Mentor in the Middle
River: Nantahala
Years Guiding: 6
Hometown: Jacksonville, FL
Austin’s a rhythm guy, both on the river and in life. With a background in music and a heart for people, he’s crafted a leadership style that’s grounded in empathy, clarity, and inspiration. He’s also a key architect of NOC’s continuing education for guides, helping the next generation step up with the skills and confidence they need. His boat is often where people feel seen, supported, and ready to grow.
“To be part of people’s favorite memories. That’s the job I wanted, and I found it.”
Off the River: Playing in a band, mentoring new staff, and spending time with his scene-stealing dog, Whiskey.

William Dupree | The Connector
Rivers: Nantahala, Ocoee, French Broad, Nolichucky
Years Guiding: 16
Hometown: Fayetteville, AR
William has spent more than a decade turning river trips into human moments. Equal parts paddling instructor, hype man, and heartfelt listener, William brings infectious energy to every trip. He’s the type of guide who knows your name before the put-in and remembers it long after the takeout. He’s here for the magic, and he helps create it every time.
“I came to hone my skills. I stayed for the magic and the team that makes it happen.”
Off the River: Fly fishing, strumming guitar, and spending time in quiet places.

Aurelia (AK) Klinck | The River Heart
River: Chattooga
Years Guiding: 8
Hometown: Durham, NC
AK leads with presence, purpose, and a kind of fierce calm that makes people feel instantly at ease. Her strength lies in community-building, whether guiding guests down rapids or guiding new staff into the culture of NOC. She’s known for showing up fully and guiding with intention, bringing care and joy to every river mile.
“For the community, the trip experience, and the challenge. It’s all here.”
Off the River: Wandering the woods, recharging, and telling stories from her year in Australia.
Why the Master Guide Program Matters
The Master Guide Program is more than a title. It’s a recognition of years of commitment, professional development, and leadership within the NOC family. These guides elevate every trip they touch, not just by knowing rivers, but by knowing people. From mentoring new staff to creating unforgettable guest experiences, they shape NOC’s legacy, one paddle stroke at a time.
