Nantahala Outdoor Center Celebrates Start of Construction of New Mountain Bungalow Lodging with Groundbreaking Ceremony
WHAT: Groundbreaking ceremony at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) will mark the beginning of construction of its new bungalow lodging. Lunch to follow.

WHO: NOC President Colin McBeath will be heading the groundbreaking ceremony along with partners to discuss the new lodging addition and NOC’s growth. The Nantahala Outdoor Center has partnered with Studio Shed, Tinker Ma and Morgan Construction for the project.

- Upon completion, there will be eight bungalows available — four 2-bedroom and four 1-bedroom units — with one ADA-accessible room in each unit.
- The first bungalows will be available starting in November and will continue to open throughout the end of this year.
- The bungalows will feature mountain views and provide the feeling of privacy while having easy access to 100+ itineraries of adventure, the Appalachian Trail, the Nantahala River and other campus amenities including restaurants, live entertainment, the Outfitter’s Store and paddling and wilderness courses.
- Select units will be suspended 50 feet high on metal pilings. The bungalows will have minimal impact on the natural environment since most units only meet the ground along one edge.
- The developers will utilize advanced modular construction techniques to minimize construction time and specialized helical pier foundation to minimize impact and account for the natural slope of the landscape.
