Chattahoochee River Outposts & Recreation
Beginning in Northeast Georgia, the scenic Chattahoochee River flows through the heart of metro Atlanta to the Gulf of Mexico. The river’s prime location and protected natural environment make it one of Atlanta’s most-loved outdoor attractions and a valuable recreational resource for millions of Atlanta residents and visitors, offering paddling, fishing, and trails for running, hiking, and biking.
Nantahala Outdoor Center offers several outpost locations conveniently located just north of downtown Atlanta in Roswell and Metro Atlanta in Sandy Springs. NOC provides high-quality craft and equipment rentals, instruction, and shuttles to multiple sections of the river. Visitors can choose to shoot the ‘Hooch any number of ways with tubing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, biking, and stand up paddleboarding.
NOC’s Roswell Outpost winds its way along Azalea Park through the heart of Roswell on a gentle and scenic section of the Chattahoochee perfect for relaxing paddling and floating. NOC’s Metropolitan locations, at Powers Island and Johnson Ferry, explore a longer section of river with stunning scenery and Class I-II whitewater rapids.
Home to over 240 bird species and an abundance of plant life, the Chattahoochee is beautiful in all seasons. From the graceful blue heron to colorful trout lilies, redbuds, azaleas, and fall’s changing leaves, there’s always something to enjoy.
