Join NOC and partner, A Walk in the Woods for an all-inclusive vacation based out of NOC’s 500-acre campus at the intersection of the Nantahala River and Appalachian Trail. Lodging in The Hemlocks, our newly built mountain bungalows, meals at local restaurants and breweries and professionally guided activities make this a perfect escape for adventurers looking to experience everything the region has to offer.
Enjoy breathtaking hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and along the iconic Appalachian Trail. Explore Cherokee, NC and surrounding areas with indigenous Cherokee cultural museums and shops. Spend a day adventuring on a guided rafting trip down the classic Nantahala River. Soar through the skies on NOC’s thrilling Mountaintop Zip Line Tour with 360-degree views of the Smokies. The Great Smokies Deluxe Multi-Sport package is sure to please all adventure seekers.

- 2 Bedroom Shared Cabin – 1 person sharing a two bedroom / 2 bathroom bungalow with another guest(s)- each guest has their own private king bedroom and bath.
- 2 Bedroom Shared Cabin – 2 guests sharing a two-bedroom bungalow with other guests (each group of two will have their own private bathroom and king bedroom).

Day 1:
- 10am Orientation at NOC Paddling School
- 11:30am Smokies’ Deep Creek Waterfall Loop Hike; 2.4 miles 426’+/433’ (lunch on trail)
- 4:15pm Back to NOC to check into lodging
- 5:30pm Dinner at River’s End Restaurant on NOC Campus
- 7pm Free time at NOC campus
Day 2:
- 7:30am Coffee & breakfast
- 10am – 3:30pm Hike Boogerman Loop Trail; 7.5 miles, 1,263’+/1,266” (lunch on trail)
- 5:15pm Down time at NOC
- 6:35pm Dinner at Pasqualinos Italian Restaurant in Bryson City
- 8pm Back to NOC for free time on campus
Day 3:
- 7am Coffee & breakfast
- 9:15am – 3:30pm Guided Hike on the Appalachian Trail to Kephart Prong Trail; 7.3 miles, 855”+,3,195- (lunch on trail)
- 4pm Explore Oconaluftee Visitors Center, shops & museum.
- 5:30pm Dinner at Native Brews Tap and Grill
- 7:30pm Return to NOC
- 8pm Campfire
Day 4:
- 7am Coffee & breakfast
- 8:30 am -11:30am Mountaintop Zip Line Tour
- 12pm Lunch at River’s End Restaurant
- 2pm Nantahala River Guided Rafting Adventure
- 5pm Say goodbyes and depart
A detailed packing list for each activity will be provided in your pre-trip packet. NOC offers hiking gear, apparel and shoes at The Outfitter’s Store on the NOC Campus or shop before your trip at our Online Outfitter’s Store.
Required:
- Two 32oz water bottles (or water bladder)
- Hiking shoes or boots
- Sandals with back straps, water shoes, or shoes you don’t mind getting wet for rafting
- Raincoat
- Day pack (21-35 Liters)
- Hiking socks (non-cotton)
- T-shirts (both casual and synthetic)
- Hiking shorts or pants (seasonal choice)
- Swimwear/lightweight towel
- Long sleeve shirt (casual and synthetic)
- Fleece/insulated jacket (High elevations and mornings and evening can be cool)
- Casual shoes or sandals for free time
- Trekking poles
- Hat and sunglasses
- Hand sanitizer
- Insect repellent
- Personal medications / personal first aid kit
- Toiletries
- Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries
- Duffel bag or soft sided suitcase

- Reading and writing materials
- Energy snacks and electrolyte drink mixes

All participants must be at least 16 years old and weigh between 100 and 250lbs to participate in all activities. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants should be comfortable hiking with a daypack up to 8 miles with up to 3000 feet of elevation gain and/or loss.
All meals from lunch on day 1 to lunch on day 4 are included.
Guests will dine onsite at River’s End Restaurant and at regional breweries and restaurants. Alcoholic beverages are not included in the package price, but can be purchased separately.
Additional food, beverages, and snacks are available on the NOC campus at the General Store, Big Wesser Riverside Pub, and The Outfitter’s Store.
